Consider enabling dynmap chat?

Also with this, to prevent unwanted spammers / banned players
You could make it so like
You have to log in to the forums and then there's an option to "Connect to Dynmap!" which you then click and it takes you to the dynmap and assigns you your forums name
and make it so that you can't 'land' on the dynmap page without signing in to the forums first?

Just noticed an option to /dynmap register in game, this must indicate some sort of login system that already comes with dynmap?

I wouldn't have a problem with limiting it to registered users. The worst thing ever is when you get anonymous knobs chatting bullshit because you can't mute it in-game.
