The server's activity has been slow for over a year. In December, I switched hosts to one that I only had to pay a one-time fee for, rather than monthly. This has saved me quite a bit of money but I've had to pay in other ways.
Unfortunately, the virtual machine I installed the server to on this new service was slow and crash-prone. Thankfully, hardly anyone had noticed the daily downtime (the server would crash at least once a day and require me to log in and restart it). One player, in particular, though, has been on my ass to get it fixed. And I'm happy he's done that, since it means that Xandorus is still very useful and fun for people today.
Since the activity on the server is starting to pick up again and I want to help support that, I took Sunday to back all the files up and move us to a brand new machine with almost double the RAM. The server has only crashed once since and the performance has been much better on my side when I log in to change things (periodically I would get disconnected halfway through typing commands).
I also wanted to point out that I've instituted a general amnesty for most of the players we banned over the years. I've had several older players reach out to me now that they've been away for so long and matured (many of them started playing when they were less than 13 years old) and want to be part of the community again.
So, if you see old faces, say hello
